About
the School
|
Marjorie-Anne
Macleod Dent started the school in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario with 1
student. She
has maintained it since that time in a small, family oriented fashion.
Her daughters, Sarah
and Jessica became involved as youngsters, eventually achieving full teaching
certification themselves. Some of the current students are the
children of dancers in the original school.
Some
students take classes just for the enjoyment of the dance - others
become serious competitors and enjoy success at competitions and games
throughout Canada, the U.S. and Scotland. Many students pursue certification
through the various grade levels, and have been extremely successful at
so doing. Several have gone on to become teachers themselves.
Dancers
often perform at special events, such as Robbie Burns Dinners, Tattoos,
and special festivals.
There is a
recital every second year and traditionally
there is a Christmas Ceilidh.
The
School has a booster association which engages in fundraising and other
promotional activities.
